Blurring the Background (continued) Clive R. Haynes FRPS |
The Superior Method |
Begin by duplicating the Background layer, either dragging the Background layer onto the New Layer icon (next to the layers palette trash bin) or by (menu bar), Layer > Duplicate Layer > Background Copy > OK. Deactivate the Background copy layer. Activate the Background layer. |
|
Make a selection around the subject to be in focus. |
Using the 'Delete' key will activate 'Fill Content Aware' box. Click 'OK'. |
If all goes well the subject area will have been filled with appropriate matter. If there's some untidiness, this can be further edited. |
Above: 'Magic!' the foreground subject has disappeared. |
With the 'marching ants' still visible, save the selection by menu bar > Select > Save Selection. |
In the 'Name' box, give the selection a name and click 'OK'. The selection is stored and available for future use with the image. Deselect, Ctr/Cmd+D (Menu Bar - Select > Deselect) |
